Current and Fall 2026 Classes at The Ascension Classical Academy

Detail-Center

This Spring 2026 we have been providing once a week tutoring in Beginning Latin, Introductory Logic, and Biology, along with some Biblical Studies. These Freshmen level classes are meeting once per week and provide both a supplement to cover material that may not be adequately covered in homeschool cooperatives, as well as additional tutoring for other existing classes.

The response to these offerings has been very positive, and we are planning to continue offering classes this coming Fall. The subjects being offered will be Earth Science, Latin I, Choir, Classical Literature, and Bible Survey. These will be taught at a 9th – 10th grade level.

We will meet two mornings per week starting at 8:15 am with morning prayer and will finish by 11:30 am. Tentatively, Classical Literature and Bible survey will be held on Wednesday, and Earth Science, Latin I, and Choir will be held on Friday. We recommend joining us in-person both days, but the Wednesday classes will be live-streamed if in-person attendance is not possible.

Class Descriptions

  • Classical Literature: In this class, students will be reading, discussing, and writing about selections from the ancient western world including The Iliad and Odyssey by Homer, Agamemnon by Aeschylus, Plato’s Republic, Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, Livy’s The History ofRome, The Didache, Ignatius’ Letters, Against Heresies by Ireanaeus, Eusebius’ Ecclesiastical History, Boethius’ The Consolation of Philosophy, and Gregory the Great’s Pastoral Rule and Homilies on the Gospels.
  • Bible Survey: Many individuals read the Bible without understanding the context and genre of its individual books, and therefore don’t fully understand how all of the Bible fits together to point us to Christ and to guide us into spiritual maturity. In this class we will consider these elements as we read through major portions of the Bible to gain a fuller understanding of the Word of God. We will also discuss the apocryphal books to gain an understanding of how they relate to the authoritative canon of scripture.
  • Earth Science: This class will use the Berean Builders Earth Science text and associated labs to investigate our world as God’s gift to us. Topics include the water cycle, geology, and outer space/astronomy.
  • Latin I: This is an introductory high-school level course to the study of classical Latin, which is foundational for a comprehensive understanding of English and the Romance languages. The class will use the first two books of the Cambridge Latin curriculum, –a direct language approach–
  • Choir: The focus for this term will be primarily upon singing Anglican chants and traditional hymns in three- (possibly four-) part harmony. Most individuals within contemporary society are intimidated by singing, and therefore the worship in our churches is less glorious than it could be. Furthermore, singing great music shapes the soul and is a crucial element of an excellent education.

Families who would like more information about participating in these classes, or who have other academic needs with which they would like help, are encouraged to contact Fr. Kent Bartel at the Ascension Classical Academy via the contact form or [email protected] .
